1. You may not touch your toes

Yoga is not a religion at all. That’s the way it is. Contrary to what your teacher might tell you, the practice of yoga does not worship any god and only offers a path to enlightenment. Yoga is a versatile and fully adaptable way to find inner peace for yourself.

Yoga is a lifestyle choice, and although, yes, many yogis choose to live vegetarian in accordance with yama (restraint) and ahimsa (non-violence). But yes, that is also a choice. 5. Not always warm
There is a style of yoga called Bikram (or Hot Yoga) that is very well known. This is just one of thousands of yoga styles. If hot is your thing, great! Start with Bikram if you want. If not, there are many other options for you.
6. It is more than just a route
As mentioned earlier, yoga has many different schools, styles and forms. Some of them are exceptionally powerful physical workouts. Some are stronger and slower. Some are purely meditative. Whether you stretch, strengthen or do reflexology exercises during your yoga practice, your reach is sure to go far beyond stretching muscles and fascia.
7. May not be energetic
In other words, yoga doesn’t have to be energetic, vigorous and sweaty to be considered a real practice. Choose a style (or styles) that you like. Find a practice that allows you to turn inward instead of focusing on the outside.

Props are one of the most powerful tools in the classroom. They are meant to be used, not neglected. Use it. They are essential and in no way make you less of a yogi.

14. Letting go is not just a cliché
We’ve all heard a yoga teacher say: Never mind. It’s a cliché from the field. But it’s also frighteningly accurate. Many things are beyond our control, and yoga teaches us to not only accept this fact, but to embrace it. Letting go is just the beginning. The sense of peace that comes from letting go is indescribable.
15. We are no more enlightened than you are
Yoga teaches us to go to our breath, be aware of our thoughts, let go of what doesn’t serve us, take care of ourselves (both physically and mentally), and much more. The practice of yoga does not guarantee enlightenment, but it does (hopefully!) lead you on the path towards it, the path of acceptance and inner peace.
This in no way makes yogis better than others. And anyone who behaves this way is not a yogi. Yoga teaches us exactly the opposite, that we are all one and the same, that the divine in me sees, honors and bows to the divine in you. Yogis are no longer enlightened. They try not to be. We’re just trying to find meaning in this life, like you.
