He’s the type of guy who wears a Fit Bit, a Garmin GPS and gym-quality headphones to keep track of his runs. He’s also a fan of the Paleo diet, intermittent fasting (IF), and, most recently, the ketogenic diet. He’s also the type of guy who will explain the ins and outs of each of these diets to you in exhaustive detail.

So how long has it been since you first tried to follow a low carb or ketogenic diet? I’ve been doing it since January and I’ve had a few bumps along the way, but overall I’m feeling really good and I want to share my experience with you.

The first thing people tell you when you start a keto diet is “you have to give up bread”, but that’s not the case. I didn’t understand how terrible my life and health had become until I was no longer sick. I am a 46-year-old married mother of a 10-year-old kid who lives in Vancouver, Canada.

I can make a lot of reasons for why I became so fat: former athlete, injured ACL, sedentary lifestyle, and sloth, to name a few. When I haven’t completed my meal, I eat from my son’s plate (mm of pizza crust). Sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a lot of inflammation, and joint discomfort are all symptoms of bloating that may reach 140 pounds.

The 12 is mine. In May of 2018, I began a keto diet. I listened to Joe Rogan’s podcasts with Dr. Peter Attia, the Bell Brothers, and other guests for many days in a row, and they discussed keto and intermittent fasting on his program. As a result, I read up on it and got started the following day. I didn’t plan to wait and didn’t do so. It’s in my habit to do it right now or make an excuse later. While conducting some research, I stumbled across your website and was immediately interested.

Because I had salad, vegetables, and meat in the fridge, it was simple to arrange the first few meals. I’m also going to prepare some low-carb protein shakes. There is a brand in Canada that has 0.5 grams of carbs per serving. To boost my fat intake (and give it a great taste), I add a spoonful of toasted organic almond butter, as well as unsweetened almond milk. The results were promising: after two weeks, I could feel my clothing loosening up a little and the scale indicated a weight loss of 4.5 kg. I anticipated the scales to shift as a result of the water loss.

I began walking my kid to school instead of driving him, and I continued to attend to the gym. I did 20 minutes on the exercise bike the first week, then added weights, chose a body area, and performed it for 20 minutes before returning home. It happened four times each week. On the elliptical, I now do 37 minutes, and a decent exercise is 45 minutes. This is a halfway point between the two 2-mile treks in either direction.

After two and a half to three weeks, I began intermittent fasting since I was already feeling full from the high fat content of the meals I was consuming. Again, I learned about it on Joe Rogan’s podcast, so I experimented with 16:8 for a long before deciding that 20:4 was the best option for me. I’m now a huge OMAD fan (single meal). In general, I watch OMD from Sunday to Wednesday and then fast from Wednesday at 5 p.m. to Saturday at 5 p.m. On OMAD, my aim is to fast for 22 hours, but I’m not going to battle the clock. It’s all about habits, and going to the gym is one of mine. I was a stickler for rules. They were suited to the fat from the start. I don’t eat dairy (much), and I haven’t tried any of the fat bomb recipes I’ve seen floating around the internet.

During a timed feed, I drink coffee with heavy cream or black. I get an Americano with heavy cream and stevia when I go to Starbucks. I sometimes sip Zevia sparkling water, but I’ve never been a huge fan of cola (I was more into energy drinks, which were even worse). I’ve also tried making bone broth in a slow cooker and like it. For me, the most essential thing is to drink enough of water. I’m going to completely fill my 750 milliliter bottle. I sometimes use stevia. Some may argue that I am breaking my fast by drinking coffee or Zevia, but the goal is to lose weight, and it works for me. It assists me in staying on track. I perform a seven-day water fast once a quarter to promote autophagy.

I wear jeans ranging in size from 46 to 30/32, depending on the design and fit, and I weigh about 170 pounds (77 pounds) vs 310 pounds (140). As I play in the 165-175 (74-79) weight range, I believe 170-175 pounds (77-79 lbs) is my midway. At 175 pounds, I simply feel a bit more powerful than at 165 pounds.

Anyway, this is what I found to be effective. If I can accomplish it, I’m certain that anybody can. I swapped my sugar addiction for a passion for learning and study. I listen to a lot of Joe Rogan, Peter Attia, Rhonda Patrick, and Dr. Brett Sher podcasts, as well as any podcast featuring Dom D’Agostino or Jason Fung as guests.

The keto and IF diets worked well together, with an 80 percent success rate. Transportation accounts for the remaining 20%. It doesn’t matter if it’s simply a lengthy stroll. I began parking my vehicle at the furthest place possible. My daily steps have risen from 3,000 to 15,000 today.

A couple evenings I ate wings and drank beer. I was sipping a low-carb beer or a vodka-infused Coke. We went to a beer festival one night and drank the normal beer and cider, which I don’t fault myself for since it was enjoyable and worthwhile. I got into ketosis after fasting for 24 hours and eating ketones. But I’d been on the road for two months and was accustomed to the grease.

In terms of supplements, I take apple cider vinegar at night and a spoonful of MCT oil in the morning. Yes, I’ll start working on them right now. Other supplements in my meal window include creatine for exercise, vitamin D3, magnesium electrolyte supplement, fish oil capsule, and CoQ10. I’m thinking of supplementing with NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide). I’m hoping to have a podcast episode on it shortly.

I’m no longer on blood pressure medicine, I don’t snore, I don’t have sleep apnea, and my doctor won’t let me take a statin RX as of this month. Although my LDL was somewhat higher than normal at 4.5 mmol/l, I had an optimum ratio of 3.5 and an HDL of 1.92.

There are a slew of reasons why I became so big (ACL surgery, milking the kids, lack of exercise, etc. ), but don’t focus on how I got there; focus on how I got out.

I’m getting text messages from friends and coworkers who want to assist. I’m just as proud of their achievements as I am of my own. They want me to create my own blog, and my doctor even wants me to speak at conferences he attends and demonstrate my biomarkers. After following the keto diet and dropping 145 pounds, my urine CAR (albumin/creatinine ratio) was dangerously high at 112.6 and is now 2.0.

My sister, who has type 1 diabetes and requires a kidney transplant, was one of the determining reasons in my decision. Because of a protein biomarker in my urine, I was judged to be ineligible to be a donor. They stated if this continues, I’ll need all of my organs. I felt terrible about not being able to donate my kidney to him. She was fortunately accompanied by a lovely relative.

My weight reduction was very rapid. In the first 30 days, I lost 14 pounds, and in the first 60 days, I lost 49 pounds. The last 23 pounds will be lost during the following four months. In seven months, you’ve lost 40 pounds. My ambition has always been to reach a weight of 170 pounds.

I’m not sure why I set my sights so high. I believe I was an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) enthusiast who thought the welterweight category was the right fit for me. It looked impossible at first, but I wanted the objective to seem far away so that I wouldn’t give up.

The most difficult part was making it function. I went to work as soon as I made the decision to alter my life. I was drinking a couple high-sugar Starbucks beverages every day, but when I discovered an option (an Americano), I knew I could do it. I missed sushi, but I don’t miss it when I eat a poke bowl with lettuce instead of rice and hot fermented veggies like kimchi!

I’d want to know how effective you are with a lawyer!! I create guacamole with the avocado and use it in a variety of recipes. I’m fortunate enough to be able to cook for myself five nights out of seven, and I work nights the other two nights, so I have complete control over my food consumption.

My family has never grumbled about the delicious cuisine that I have discovered. I still cook handmade burgers, but I eat them in salad wraps or tacos wrapped in lettuce. It’s simple, and if you lose weight fast, you’ll find it easy to remain motivated.
