In the past, I have written about the medical benefits of cannabis in a series of posts, and I have had many readers ask me for the latest marijuana research. For this reason I have decided to put together a roundup of the latest marijuana news for the week of June 5, 2018.
Marijuana has been the subject of a lot of research the past few years, and science has shrouded in mystery. Studies have shown that marijuana can help with a number of different medical conditions, however, there are still some misconceptions about the plant. This week, there was one new study that showed that marijuana can help people lose weight, which contradicts a previous study that claimed the opposite.
The MORE bill has been reintroduced in Congress with very uncertain prospects. President Biden’s federal budget proposal continues to support the prohibition of cannabis sales in the District of Columbia, and Montana legalizes recreational cannabis.Video Transcript:

MORE Act 2021 was introduced
Last Friday, Jerry Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, reintroduced the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Relief Act of 2021, also known as the MORE Act. It calls for the decriminalization of drug possession, the elimination of criminal records, and social justice measures for communities hardest hit by the war on drugs. The bill would also raise taxes on recreational products to fund job training, medical education, rehabilitation and legal assistance for people from communities affected by the drug war. The bill’s prospects remain uncertain for now, as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to prioritize a separate federal legalization bill containing similar provisions. Biden’s federal budget proposal is not cannabis-friendly
Next news, While Congress pursues comprehensive drug reform, President Biden’s new budget proposal maintains a long-standing policy that prevents the District of Columbia from using its tax dollars to implement a retail cannabis program. While frustrating for Washington, the budget still prevents the Justice Department from stopping the legalization of cannabis in all states. But that doesn’t sit well with Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton, who expressed her confusion over Biden’s decision, given that he openly supports D.C.’s statehood and has even repeatedly stressed that states should be able to make their own decisions about recreational legalization. If that is his position, it is certainly not reflected in his current federal budget proposal. While Biden is apparently in favor of the city of Washington not profiting from the sale of recreational cannabis. than the state courts can do, 
He recommended removing a provision that prohibits the county from using local funds to provide abortion services, a right granted to 17 other states and an issue that, like cannabis, also disproportionately affects communities of color. So while Biden breaks down the barriers, he continues to maintain them, which certainly contributes to the inconsistency. Norton said she will work to keep the anti-cannabis provision out of the budget until it reaches the president’s desk.
Montana legalizes recreational cannabis USe
And finally, Montana finally legalized recreational cannabis this month! Several months after voter approval, Governor Gianforte finally signed a law allowing cannabis use by adults over 21 in the state of Montana. The bill provides for the implementation and regulation of a recreational program and funding for a substance abuse program called the HEART Fund. In a statement to the media, the governor said: I’ve been clear from the beginning that we need to devote more resources to fighting the drug epidemic that is destroying our communities ….. The HEART Foundation will provide new support for Montanans who want to get clean, sober and healthy. Currently, the only legal way to obtain recreational cannabis in Montana is to grow it. Those looking to make purchases will not be able to do so until January 2022 unless they have a medical card. So like this video and follow us on Veriheal for the latest cannabis news.
